ESP 2000

Speed Pilot Operation

The ESP 2000 system is designed to accommodate different styles of vessels and operating profiles. Five operating modes allow it to be used in a wide variety of applications. To operate the system, the operator simply selects the desired operating mode and presses the engage button. Engine RPM is automatically set according to the desired operating mode. Any RPM change requested by the system is performed in accordance with the engine manufactures recommendations to minimize cylinder temperature gradients.

ESP 2000 Speed Pilot Operating Modes:

bulletBest Speed (typical fuel savings 5% to 7%):  Used when maximum effort is required. Captain chooses RPM. Objective is to obtain the highest possible ground speed while minimizing fuel used.
bullet Set Speed (saves more fuel than Best Speed):  Used for precision navigation during shorter voyages. Captain chooses speed. Objective is to maintain the specified ground speed while minimizing fuel used. Provides predictable ETA’s and scheduling. Actual fuel savings depend on the speed chosen.
bullet Automatic Mode (saves most fuel):  Used for precision navigation during longer voyages. Captain chooses speed. Objective is to average the specified ground speed while minimizing fuel used. Actual speed will vary to optimize miles per ton.
bullet RPM Mode:  Used for testing or obtaining references. Captain chooses RPM. Objective is to precisely maintain the specified RPM to within 0.1 RPM.
bullet Manual Mode: The ESP 2000 is disabled. Setting of the speed control sticks controls vessel speed.

Safe & Reliable

Designed specifically for use with low speed 2 stroke engines, the ESP 2000 is designed to provided improved levels of control while at the same time ensuring safe operation of the engine. Its advanced control algorithms provide precise tracking of recommended minutes per RPM change and horsepower load curves. In addition, the system monitors the vessels existing engine control system and automatically reduces engine power output if a problem develops with the engine.

System Configuration

Each ESP 2000 Speed Pilot system is custom designed for a specific vessel or class of vessels. The core of ESP 2000 system consist of three main components. The Processor Display Unit, Engine Management System and the Pneumatic Control Unit. Depending on application, the system may also include additional components such as a Data Acquisition Processor, Signal Isolators, custom sensors and a data recording PC.  Click on the link below to view a typical system block diagram.
