Rising Fuel Price Shortens Payback Cycle

How long does it take to pay for an ESP 1000 Speed Pilot system? The answer depends on how fast your vessel burns 450,000 gallons of fuel.  Based on a fuel price of $1.30 per gallon and an average savings of 7%, once passed this milestone, a typical blue water Speed Pilot system will be completely paid for.  After that, the savings go straight to your bottom line.

Speed Pilot Makes Waves In Gulf Market

Tests of a 150/610 ft. 7200 Hp Deep Notch ITB produced impressive fuel savings with no loss in speed.

Compared to historical averages, the Speed Pilot reduced fuel burn by 28.3 gallons per hour, for a total savings of 1,075 gallons transiting from Southwest Passage to Egmont Key. During the 40 hour crossing, vessel speed averaged 9.73 knots which compares favorably with the average of 9.5 knots. Fuel savings for 3 crossings averaged over 600 gallons per day.

Deep Sea Tug Saves with Speed Pilot

A recent 28 day voyage by a 3900 Hp 127 ft. twin screw tug provides more proof of the ESP 1000 Speed Pilot's fuel savings potential in blue water service. Operating in the Pacific Ocean and towing a self-loading container barge, fuel savings ranged from 6.3 to 8.4 percent per day. Overall system utilization was 98.8 percent indicating how well the system was received by the crew.

Analysis of the voyage data identifies significant potential for even more fuel savings by using the systems "Automatic" and "Set Speed" modes to time the vessels arrival. Using set speed mode on one 48-hour leg of the trip reduced fuel consumption by 18%. On another 48 hour run, automatic mode produced savings of 22 percent.

In both instances, fuel consumption was compared to earlier runs following the same routes, where vessel speed was adjusted the traditional way through a series RPM reductions as the vessel approached its destination.

ESP 1000 Speed Pilot Adds Web Based Satellite Tracking & Text Messaging

Integration of the MSAT packet data service provided by Waveburst Communications is now complete. With this system, fleet operators can now realize substantial fuel savings along with the benefits of improved communications and vessel tracking by equipping their fleet with the ESP 1000 Speed Pilot system.

Flexible reporting options provides automatic position & status reports along with a daily operations summary. Vessel information is accessed from a private secure Website. Here, shore personnel can see the vessels location plotted on a detailed map, exchange text messages with the vessel and monitor vessel speed, engine RPM, fuel burn rate, etc.

On the vessel, the ESP 1000 provides the operator with an effective tool that simplifies voyage planning and reduces fuel consumption.

In addition, the system also supports panic alarms, and remote diagnostic of the vessels propulsion system.
