FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stellar Marine Announces Release of New Software for the ESP 1000 Electronic Speed Pilot

New version 922 improves overall efficiency with enhanced navigational tools

Nanaimo, B.C. - February 7, 2002: -- Stellar Marine today announced the immediate availability of ESP 1000 software Version 922. The ESP 1000 Electronic Speed Pilot is a propulsion control system that helps workboats run more efficiently. It does this by automatically fine tuning throttle settings to get the most speed on the least amount of fuel. With Version 922, Stellar Marine provides a new tracking function where vessel operators will know instantly how many miles ahead or behind schedule they are. In addition, the new version provides an enhanced Automatic mode, which combines efficient engine control with the navigational aspects of voyage management.

“Over the last 10 years the ESP 1000 evolved from its original focus on propulsion efficiency, to overall vessel efficiency,” said Bob Speed, President of Stellar Marine. “The main objective of the ESP 1000 was to use the least amount of fuel to maintain a given speed. Now, because of customer requests, additional features were developed to assist vessel operators to automatically maintain a schedule. The ESP 1000 improves overall vessel efficiency by using the lowest speed necessary to maintain that schedule.”

ESP 1000 Version 922 new features and benefits:

bulletTracking Function – A track progress calculator continuously updates vessel position based on the entered track speed. The system indicates whether the vessel is ahead or behind schedule to the nearest tenth of a mile. This allows vessel operators to make decisions with accurate, up to date information.

bulletEnhanced Automatic Mode – In this mode, the ESP 1000 automatically maintains the average speed requested. The Tracking Function is used to correct for traffic and other delays. To improve vessel efficiency, the system calculates and adjusts vessel speed depending on the cost of fuel per mile.

Availability
All new ESP 1000 systems will be equipped with software Version 922. It is also available as an upgrade for existing ESP 1000 systems.
